The painter Caspar David Friedrich and the writer Heinrich von Kleist lived just a few hundred metres apart in Dresden. They knew and appreciated each other; Kleist publicly defended Friedrich on several occasions. The renowned Kleist researcher Hans-Jochen Marquardt traces the relationship between the two geniuses.
